Ever since I was asked to serve in the Young Women's (girls teenage youth group) for church (a week ago today), I've been feeling a little girly. Growing up a tomboy...the oldest of four "stinky brothers" as Jenna would say, and living in another boy house now, this doesn't happen very often. I bought cute flowery, glittery hair clips. I've been immersing myself in "chick-lit" and loving every minute of it! And now I've updated my blog look to reflect the girly-girl within.
I've also been daydreaming...daydreaming of having a girl of my own someday, but until then, daydreaming that I'll come to love these teenage girls like my own. My mom always served in Young Women while I was growing up, and she was always lovingly calling the girls she served, "my girls" and "my Laurels." Now that it's my turn, I'm admittedly a little scared and nervous, but also really excited. It will be a fun, new challenge and wonderful to be part of something so great, to serve with some amazing women, and to be stretched out of my comfort zone yet again. Hopefully, someday in the not so distant future, you'll see a post all about "my girls" and "my Miamaids."
PS---If you're looking for a good babysitter, I'm the gal who's in the know now! :)

I thought I had gone to the wrong blog when yours popped up. I was like...what kind of girl factory?? Haha. Congrats on the new calling. I was super intimidated when I served in the young women too. I wasn't in the ward long enough to really bond with the girls though...so hopefully you will be able to get close to them and call them "your girls". Your mom was always great in the YW.
You are so wonderful in any calling that you serve in. I'm excited for you!! I will be calling you for the inside scoop on the babysitters!
By the way, I miss you! We need to do lunch with the "ex-pres" again when I get back. I've got to bulk up my muscles so I can arm wrestle Brittni again!
Man, Monica stole my whole comment. I guess I can just say "ditto"! You will be wonderful in YW, and I'm sure the girls will all look up to you. Let's do LUNCH!!!
Out of all the women I know in the ward I would definitely pick you for Young Women's. They're gonna have so much fun with you. What more do they need than an awesome example of a woman who's a great mom, so sweet and friendly and so beautiful! You'll do great. I love your new layout- it's so cute. And as for your questions you commented on my blog a million years ago that I never answered- my maiden name is Holwick but all my family in Show Low are the Nikolaus' and the Willis'. And I was a National Gold Medalist in Public Speaking in a group called FCCLA which used to be FHA- Future Homemakers of America. Anyway, congrats and see ya' soon!
Sara, I love your new blog layout. I was wanting something really girly for mine too, but now mine just makes me want to puke! You are going to be a great leader in Young Womens cause you are such a fun girl!!! I hope you get a girl someday.
Sara you are wonderful and I know you will be great in YW and they will love you and you will very soon be calling them your girls. :o) I loved it when I was in YW for 3 years! I love the pink polka dots!!!
How fun to get to do your calling. I'm so jealous of all your bonding time. You won't even need me when I get back!
I was so excited when I heard about your new calling. Of course you'll be fabulous-a great example to all the girls!
