Today is the 80th Birthday of my beloved Grandma. We are very close & kindred spirits, really. She's the grandma I'm named after, and Ben jokingly calls me Grandma Ray when I say or do something just like her. It's kind of funny, but we have a lot of the same interests, and personality traits as well.

To celebrate her 80 years, all of her children & spouses spent a few days doing fun outings, touring the Spruce Goose, and going on a dinner cruise in Portland. Then on her actual birthday, all the grandkids, and great grandkids that live there got together for lunch in her honor. They presented her with a scrapbook full of updated photos and little love notes.

This was a very sad day for me because every single member of my family was there, except for me and mine. Even though I've lived away from home for 15 years now, it's still hard for me. I miss out on the every day stuff, which I guess I'm used to, but it's the big stuff like this that really gets to me.
Anyway, because she loves to have a little chocolate after every meal, she found these really rich, caramel filled chocolates called Riesens that are one of her favs. You can often find them in her pocket, purse, or hiding in a drawer in her kitchen. I wanted to do a play on words and come up with 80 reasons I love her. The vase is filled with 80 Riesens and paper flowers with written reasons why she's so special. Initially I thought I'd have a hard time coming up with 80 and was going to pull my brothers in on it, but once I got started it was easy. I think I have enough to go to 100, but I'll definitely be there for that birthday!

No wonder you are her favorite--that is an adorable idea!
You can't imagine how touched GG was over you "80 Reisens". You still reign as the FAVORITE. (And that, coming from the black sheep!)
