It was 5:58 am when I got a little tap on my shoulder. I turn to see Kaleb with the cutest grin from ear to ear, bursting at the seams with excitement, "It's my first day of school, Mom!" And so it begins. I stuffed him silly with Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes, Ben got him all dressed in his uniform, and the whole family walked him to school.
A few minutes of fun on the playground, and then he was off. Marching in a line, following Mrs. Tucker, he waved goodbye & didn't look back. My good friend, Chelsey, told me to wear sunglasses. It was a good tip, because I didn't want him to see my range of emotions & I did get a little choked up. We stood by the open door and watched him get settled in. His teacher announced, "It's time for kindergarten to start and parents to say goodbye," and so I snuck in and said a proper goodbye complete with a kiss. Kaleb looked up and said, "Mom, make sure to tell Dylan I love him." What a sweet, sweet boy!
When I picked him up at 11:00 (he's in a full day class, but we're pulling him at half day, until we're ready for him to be gone all day) he said, "Why do I have to go and the rest of my class gets to finish the day?" We'll see how long this lasts. He brought home a picture he drew and colored with a sticker on top, complete with his name written properly: a capital K and lowercase aleb on both sides. He prefers all caps, so we could tell he was really trying to impress. Kaleb claims he was the best boy in his class, such a humble one he is, but his teacher did tell me he did an awesome job today. We're so proud!

Wow! I can't believe he is in Kindergarten! I remember when Ethan first went to Kindergarten, and he was the same way. So excited to go! All day seems to be hard for those little ones. I am glad we still do half day here. It only gets easier from here and after that you will be happy to send your next one to school. School is so great for the kids! Hope he continues to like it!
Oh man, what a sweetie. I hope he loves his teacher. I'm jealous that you are SO close to the school.
What a big boy! We sure are proud of him! I love the sunglasses idea.
He is so darling! What a great kid!
Wow - what an early start! We're still in full summer swing here, but I know it's a little different in 'zona! :)
What a wonderful parenting move to "pull him" half day. Daphne was 6 years old her whole kinder year, and half day was still plenty! She got so tired and loved afternoons at home.
You'll know when he's ready:)
I LOVED our park date this summer - proud of us for making it happen!
Ahhhh, the memories! Seems like yesterday you were off catching the bus to kindergarten, just as cute and excited as K! He will love it all and do great, and so will you and Dylan!
