As much as I'd sometimes like to NOT be THAT Mom, I find I can't help myself sometimes. So after 5 weeks at the neighborhood school of being in a kindergarten class of 33, with no real learning going on (except the play by play of naughty kids), I started exploring our options. I quickly learned that the only excelling school in the county had kindergarten classes of 17-18, and then all I could think about was BOUNDARY EXCEPTION. I met with the principal, observed all the kindergarten teachers, toured the school, and found everything to be just what I had hoped for. Meet the newest Pima Butte Mustang!
BEFORE: Kaleb quickly vetoed the plan of the whole family dropping him off on his first day. He wanted just one of us to take him and chose Dad!

AFTER: How was your first day, son?
OUTSTANDING!

I told Kaleb on our way to meet his teacher last week that I'd have lots of fun surprises for him, if he did his best and tried to be happy at his new school. As soon as we were in the car, he asked if I had the new Nintendo DS we had (NOT) discussed!?! I had made his bed for him and bought him new Nerf darts, but I guess we had different levels of bribery in mind. ;)
Here's a link to a recent article on his new school. If interested, it's on page 22.

You always have to do what is best for YOUR child. Our classes this year are also in the 30+ and they are trying to bring in more teachers and things. It is crazy that there are so many students these days and not enough funding for teachers to accommodate. I am sure he will love his new school.
What a brave little boy! I had the same judgemental feelings when we moved to CA and realized that no one takes their kids to the school they are supposed to go to, per boundaries. Since we have 4 elementary schools within a 5 mile radius, people try to get their kids into the highest rated ones. And I have to say, now that Kaden is getting closer to kindergarten, I find myself thinking about my plan of attack for getting him into the best rated school, which is NOT the one he is supposed to go to!
Glad you found a better fit for him! We are spoiled I guess, cause Daph had the 18 kiddo thing going on last year. It was ideal for sure!
Hope things look up for Kaleb's first school days:)
Thanks, girls! He's doing AWESOME & loves his new school. This is one of the most difficult parenting decisions we've had to make so far, but I know it was for the best. There is a night and day difference between the two schools, and it really makes me upset that the education my son would receive is so drastically different based solely on where we live. Feeling very grateful that Kaleb is such a happy, social, adaptable type of kid, and that they had room for him at Pima Butte!
Yay, so glad it is going well!
