First day of second grade
Our big boy started second grade at a new school, Hale Elementary, last week. He's now a Hale Hero and is in Ms. Day's class. After his first day he loved riding the bus home, the class pet hermit crabs, and had already made two friends, Brigg and John-John. I can see a big difference in his handwriting already, which has really improved. He has 25 spelling words which includes vocabulary, high frequency, and challenge words. I knew he was a good speller, but tonight he surprised me by getting all of them right after only one day of practicing the challenge words which include: chameleon, beautiful, and tongue. Not bad for a second grader! He's also starting timed tests with math facts and admitted tonight that he loves to read while he eats. (Wonder where he got that?)
Doughnuts with Dad before Meet the Teacher. Isn't she adorable? He's pretty cute, too!
I ask him everyday who he sits by at lunch and what he does at recess. He only gets one morning recess, because it's still 110ish, the lunch recess is inside watching a movie. K keeps telling me he plays on the swings a lot, instead of with other kids. I was getting concerned, but today he reported with that twinkle in his eye, that he and two other boys were chased by 20 girls on recess. Now that's more like it! :) I'm a proud mama and think he's handling this transition to a new school really well.
K brought this vocab classwork home yesterday. I taught him that! ;)

Wow, that's some impressive spelling! I'm not sure I would have gotten those words right in 5th grade!
