Dylan's 5!

My sweet little baby boy is no longer a baby, or even a toddler. He's in full BIG boy mode!
Favorites: Ninjago, swimming like a fish, McDonald's, any drink, most chips, chocolate, frosting, watermelon, playing with his sibs, video games, the ipad (which he sometimes sneaks), Mommy preschool, hugs, Where's Waldo (he has the entire collection and knows how to find Woof's tail on every page), and being silly, of course!

We celebrated long and hard this time around.  Five is a very important birthday, you know?  We had presents and cinnamon rolls super early because Ben had a business trip and we wanted him to be in on the fun.  He loved all his gifts, ninjago legos & tshirt, a red ball, and a super surprise, his own pet lizard!  He named him Speed, not to be confused with Speedy, which he is not.

After dropping K off at school, I surprised the littles and took them to the zoo.  Oh, how I wish I had the day recorded, like we were reality stars or something.  He was so stinkin' cute! Dylan had the map and it was his day, so we went and did everything he wanted to do. We started at the Arizona Trail and saw all the reptiles, birds, wolves, javelinas, etc. Then we headed to the Komodo Dragon next. We saw more birds, the elephants, then the orangutans. There was a mom and daughter orangutan close to the glass and Ruby did not want to leave them!  Then we headed to the tree house where they played to their hearts content and were covered in sand from head to toe. We did the carousel, bought slurpees, and went for another loop up to see the tiger, lions, etc.  D decided we should go see the mountain goats/rams/whatever. I don't normally do that loop with the kids because it's hot, dusty, and you rarely see anything, but this time there were tons of them really close and I helped him use a telescope. We heard the howler monkeys and saw the desert tortoises making more desert tortoises.  It was quite a show! We saw almost every animal, except the farm animal loop, got lightly rained on, and just had the best time together.

Dylan insisted he wasn't really five until we had his friend party a few days later. Saturday morning we had all his close friends from copa and our cousins over to celebrate with a Ninjago swim party.  He loved seeing his friends again and had so much fun!  They swam, swung at a dragon pinata, ate lots of yummy chocolate cake, and played with all his loot.  Dylan's packages and cards from family were so awesome, too. Every day he'd ask to check to see if there were more.  He was spoiled and deserved it!  D's just so cute these days I want to bottle him up and keep him little-ish forever.

Love these girls & that they made the effort to come so far for Dylan's day.

PS-- I am playing catch up with this post & all the following.  It's 1/2/13 today.  Note to self: D's party was the best (meaning easiest) I ever threw!  Must remember Costco cake & easy treats w/ backyard pool & pinata.
