Called to Serve

We were able to fly under the radar for a while in our new ward, and then in November I was called to head the RS committee.  I lasted about 1 1/2 activities,  I'm pretty sure that's a new record! The first activity was in November and was pretty much planned already by the previous committee, so we just had to step in and do it. For December the RS presidency delegated cooking for the ward Christmas party to our committee, as most of them were going to be out of town that night.  Let's just say we got it done, but it was very stressful. Thanksgiving was late this year, we got a vicious case of the stomach flu the weekend before the party, and I had to buy food 3 times to make sure we had enough! Our committee decided to make Cafe Rio. Lots of tender mercies and prayers happened that week. It turned out great, but I would NEVER do that for such a large crowd again. The Elders Quorum President works for Mission, so he donated the tortillas and chips. The red & green chips made my whole night! Well that and the friendly peacock that almost joined me in the kitchen. We had the ward bring salsa, cilantro rice & desserts, and then were happy to share their talents. There was a committee that worked really hard on decorations, and a musical presentation as well. It was the nicest ward party I've been to so I guess it was worth it.

Hermosa Vista Ward Christmas Party

The very next Sunday, they called a new YW presidency. As I sustained them, I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great if they called me to be an advisor. I quickly put the thought out of my mind since I was just put in to my new calling. A week or two later, I got a phone call, and was asked to be the Laurel advisor. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for weeks, and know my Heavenly Father loves me. :)

My girls.  (L-R: Maddie, Michelle, Natalie, Hallie, Kara) We watched Pres. Uchtdorf''s Your Once Upon a Time is Now & decorated crown cookies at our house. :)
King Kaleb

I've also been thinking a lot on how we can get Kaleb ready for baptism. Another answer to my prayers came in Ben's calling to be his primary teacher. It's such a great fit for our family, because Ben doesn't get to spend much one on one time with the kids, and he's such an awesome teacher of children. Even though I'm a trained elementary education teacher, I think he's the better teacher. Last year he taught Dylan's class, and now Kaleb gets to have that special time, too. We feel so blessed!
